A cross-campus mobile and art installation integrating time differences around the world
About

ABOUT US

As students and creators, we all agree that meaningful connections have been lost throughout this pandemic. Despite some students returning to campus, the rich experience that campus life once offered has been fundamentally changed - possibly indefinitely. During these trying our team has taken the opportunity to conceptualize something beautiful and romantic, which promotes meaningful connection globally. Orbit is an ambient digital interactive art installation that forges social connections around the world as we return to our daily lives.

FAQ
FAQs

Will users receive unpleasant or offending messages through the screen?

No, there will be systems in place and moderators preventing the use of profane, or offensive language

Will other users know I sent the message?

Any message sent through orbit is randomly assigned to a user in the opposing country. As a result all communication through the application is anonymous.

Why can I only send one message per day?

Orbit removes the instant gratification of being able to immediately direct message others in order to provide a new way of communication. Sending one message per day romanticizes what would otherwise be ordinary communication, and provides the user with something to look forward too.

Why do I have to scan a QR code in order to use orbit?

Users are required to scan a QR code in order to use orbit so that we can ensure the security of our users. The QR code serves as authentication, and ensures that only users from Ryerson University and Hong Kong Baptist University can use our services for the time being.

Where can I scan the QR code?

The QR codes are located on the interactive screens at Ryerson University and Hong Kong Baptist University 24/7. These codes must be scanned in order to experience orbit.
